Enhancing impact, improving outcomes

Enhancing Impact, Improving Outcomes

Strategic Consulting for Conservation and Sustainability

Based in St. Louis, I help nonprofits, governments, and mission-driven organizations nation-wide meet their conservation and sustainability goals. I specialize in program development and evaluation, managing collaboratives for collective impact, and troubleshooting existing programming. Whether you’re working to engage landowners to remove invasive species, reach a more diverse audience with your conservation programming, or get more commuters to choose public transit, I can help you assess your goals, gain a deeper understanding of your audience, and develop a pathway to success.

My work is based on research combined with practical experience. I use the latest in environmental psychology, behavior-change marketing (social marketing), and the science of communications to inform my approach, and I use my experience working with foresters, farmers, ecologists, and every-day people to ensure that approach is realistic.

Contact me today to discuss the impact you want to have, and see how I can help you get on the right path to reach your goals.

Strategic planning

Are you trying to reach a new audience, but aren’t sure where to start? Have a great idea, but don’t know how to implement it?

I will help you identify primary goals and audiences, develop a path for engaging your audience, and establish accountability measures to keep your program on the right track.

Outreach Training

Whatever your career, you probably have to work with people, and maybe even “the public.” Do you want more people to act on your research, or do you want to make sure your upcoming professional presentation creates an impact?

Through one-on-one coaching or a workshop developed specifically for your team, you will learn the skills to be more effective in your communications and presentations.

Evaluation & Troubleshooting

Do you wonder why so few people care about the issue you are most passionate about? Can you point to the impacts your program is having?

I will identify common programming missteps and help you implement an evaluation framework that allows you to improve your offering and tell the powerful story of your work to funders and the community.

  • Amanda Mahaffey, Forest Stewards Guild

Client journey mapping

Using qualitative research, I will build a “journey map” to describe the paths your clients take as they interact with your programs and services.

The journey map will highlight barriers and pain points that may prevent your clients from embracing your services or completing your programming, and will identify opportunities for modifying programming to better meet their needs and reach your goals.

Tools for engaging landowners effectively (TELE) workshop

During a two-day, intensive workshop, participants learn the principles of behavior-change marketing and work in small groups to develop a practical, effective outreach plan for a real project.

Past TELE workshop participants regularly see a 3- to 5-fold improvement in rates of landowner action. These workshops are held in conjunction with a local host and can accommodate up to 25 participants.

Audience Research

Understanding your audience(s) is critical to successful programming, but it can be easy to miss important characteristics without a careful look.

Using a combination of existing data and new research, I will provide a robust profile of your audience, their challenges, and their motivations.
